#340 May be some traffic coming this way

Posted by LWulffe CR on 28 December 2003 - 02:14 AM in General Topics (RB3D)

Good post Hotrod.

I left the AFM skies long ago (not that I was there much anyhow) for NFM... that lasted right up until a few weeks ago.

I have now left NFM for a modified fm and a secure server (using Ren's Secure Server software).

The ability to grief does not exist there anymore, the hacks are also not available as any of these actions will either get you booted, and or not allow you into the game at all.

The server that has been developed is also not your standard server. There is aa everywhere and also the flak is thick enough to walk on (to quote Andydad).

There are tanks available to drive and balloons to attack. Both these targets are nothing to sneeze at as the tanks are tough and the balloons well defended.

I recommend checking this out as it brings back the fun in the game, without the worries of bungholes trying to wreck it for all.

It's well worth the download.

The planes are great both the fm and the graphics, the buildings, balloons, etc are very nice too.

The only things that detract from the experience is the DOA type of distance modeling (square blocks) for almost everything.

If I had to rate it as is...

FM = 9.0 (but I am no expert)

Cockpit and plane graphics = 9.0 (gauges not working yet so no 10)

Additional structures (Dromes, balloons etc) = 8.5 (no working ambulances etc :) )

Terrain detail = 6.5 (very blah and non descript but its not very important as this is a flight sim)

Distance rendering = 2 (the effort to atleast show distant objects was attended to, but needs work IMO )

Over all = 8.0

These ratings should by no means stop you from trying this game yourselves. I recommend it highly for those interested in WWI aviation.

The comparison to Red Baron 3D is difficult as there really isn't any. (But I do not have Full Canvas Jacket and this might change this statement)

I will also say that when this game goes pay to play, I will be one of the ones to drop it from my hard drive. No matter if it's $.33 a day or anyother fee... it's just something that I do not do. Sad but true.

A better option to me, would be to charge a fee for the download of the game (or a cd to be sent in mail etc).
This I would do.

Anyhow ramble is ended.

If you read this far thanks, if not.... no worries I would not have either probably. :D

Salut? from CR

#329 Targetware's WW1 Sim Gathering Steam

Thanks JoGunn I dl'd the latest version of T. Flanders and was able to go online with no problems this time around.

Well... it did take me 2 planes to finally take off.. :) but once up it was smooth flyin.. well until I tried a split s to get on the tail of an enemy... engine died and had to glide to the ground.

Interesting game, the plane detail is great, close up. From a distance.. everything is very remenicant of DOA.

Square pixels for distant planes etc.

Will experiment more though, it seems to have potential.

Have been there, have tried that to no avail. I can't seem to get the program to work for me.

Maybe someday, but until then... :)
