Gump's OSL Revised PL1 3dpatch.vol (Spring/Summer) v.02 This download is the first of three revised season .vol folders for Gump's upgraded PL1 terrain. Work is continuing with the fall and winter vol folders and they will be available soon. WHATS THIS 3DPATCH.VOL DO? In this version nomansland is brown (instead of green), the rivers are blue (a nice subdued blue, hope you like it), some colour modifications were done on objects (buildings etc) and mismatches were corrected for distant objects(this is an ongoing work, its intended more improvements will be available in future releases of this .vol folder) and the airport-sized aerodrome has been replaced by a less obvious airstrip nestled amid the local farm fields. (See below how to change the length of the airfield.) Overall I have tried to tone down some of the object colours (bridges, hangars etc) that were more intense than the terrain colours, which made them stand out starkly and unrealistically in the landscape. WHATS IN THIS DOWNLOAD AND HOW TO USE IT 1. A '3dpatch.vol' file. This has all the terrain details for spring and summer. It is larger than the current 3dpatch in Gump's OSL Upgrade v.2a because of the new work in it. Backup your existing version (whatever it is) in the 3dpatch folder in the Data folder (in case you hate what I've done). Copy this download version to your 3dpatch folder. 2. A folder named 'Shorter Landing Strip'. This contains two files 'saero' and 'saerox'. The graphics on these will shorten the new 'farmland' airstrip with the view to providing more challenging landings. Nothing will happen if you overshoot the graphic limits of the runway, you wont crash or anything unless you manage that yourself :). You will see this shorter version fits well with the smaller dromes where the hangars are lined across the runway. Copy this 'Shorter Landing Strip' folder to the shellpat folder, and then copy both files out into shellpat. If you decide you prefer the longer strip, simply delete the two files from shellpat. I have not tested the shorter strip with earlier crates, but the option to use both airfield lengths remains with you according to your aircraft. Winter and fall versions will include simliar files for use in shellpat. I am particularly interested in getting feedback on the revised airfield. I am aware that some online campaigners might not like the less obvious airfield or the shorter airstrip, but I am quite prepared to release different season .vol folders to accommodate preferences, if there is enough interest. OK, you should be right to fly now, but remember these changes are for spring and summer only. My modifications for fall/autumn and winter are almost done and will be ready soon. CREDITS The Promise Land terrain graphics generally and specifically, as available in Gump's OSL Upgrade v.2a were created by Kessler and I believe they are the very best ever made and released for RedBaron3d. I want to thank Kess for his great work and hope he approves of what little I have done here with PL1. Thanks to Flybert whose PLfly_09 patch really made all the object stuff seem a little bit logical, although it still somehow doesnt really seem like it. Thanks to Gump for his pallette improvements with PL1 and who began filling my head with the idea of what could be done and how to do it. This is really all his fault, its been really interesting and time consuming and the wife now boasts the Red Baron has made her a widow, twice! Hope you're OK Gump, where-ever you are. Pull your finger out and get back here soon mate. A special thanks to Skidmark who set me on the right track with rbvolx just when I'd given up. Good man, Skid. This is a free project. Use and enjoy. If you dont like it, dont use it. rb3d.net or wings of valor for your feed back, thank you. Autumn and winter soon. Cheers Jolly January 2009
