MFP4 Upgrade 1 (MF4_ug1)

This patch is an upgrade for the main MFP4 patch.  Its main purpose is to integrate Zinteck’s Lafayette Escadrille patch with MFP4.  It loads the aircraft schemes and changes in escadrille name and unit badge for the Lafayette escadrille, so that they become a permanent part of the game.  The patch also makes a change to the position of a significant aerodrome location, La Noblette ferme, used by both the Lafayette escadrille and other French units.  To make this change required changing the underlying landscape files, Baron0.TED, so the patch is made bulky by the presence of this large file.  I have also altered two other Marne aerodrome positions (La Cheppe and Vauciennes).  The patch also includes a date-based change for the pilots.dat file, so that Raoul Lufbery’s ranks are correctly shown.  In 1916-1917, he was in French service as an NCO, but the codes are read by the game as US officer ranks.  So Lufbery starts with his nationality set at “French”, then this changes to “US” on 15 Feb 1918.

In preparing these essentials, I also took the opportunity to amend a few little mismatches and bugs concerning some colour schemes that I have noticed.  Added a few new things to the Spad schemes too

Loading.

Unzip the contents of the download to the CM11/patches subfolder.

Then MOVE the file called Baron0.ted to the main Redbaron3D(II)/Data folder, overwriting the version that is there (downloaded in the base MFP4 patch).

Three new patches will be created in the /patches folder:

MF4_ug1 adds the date-based changes and updates to the game. Consider this a compulsory addition.  Whenever you reload the MFP4 patch, always add this one as well.

LafNames is a very small patch, just a couple of files, designed for use when you wish to fly as a member of the Lafayette escadrille.  It changes the French name lists that would normally be used as sources for names for your squad mates, to a more US mix of Anglo and European names.

I also put three extra ace photo files in this folder – Frnace45 shows Cne. Georges Thénault, CO of Esc 124, Frnace46 shows Ltt. Alfred de Laage de Meux, the second in command (killed in a flying accident 23 May 1917), and frnace47 shows Ltt William Thaw, the senior US pilot.  Those who can hex edit, or use Tymophil’s Editeur, could alter the name of the Capitaine and the two Lieutenants generated by the game and change them and the photos to match the historical CO and his deputies.

FrNames is the ‘antidote’ for the previous patch.  If you want to fly in another French escadrille and need to have French-sounding squad mates, uninstall the previous patch and install this one.

            And vice-versa…

Thanks to Zinteck for letting me repackage his patch.
