November 11 is coming up (Veteran's Day) and the thought occurred to me:

How many WWI veterans are left? US? Britain? France? Belgium? Germany?
Austria? Italy? etc. Out of the millions who fought, how many survive?

Anyone have any figures?

This article got me to thinking.

Salute!

I don't have any clue how many veterans from W.WI are still alive. I recently saw a TV documentation about a German submarines and there was a veteran, who fought in W.WI and W.W.II. If I remember correctly he was an officer on a submarine in W.W.I and a submarine commander in W.W.II and survived both wars. But he passed away about ten years ago I think. Just a single example.

I mean the youngest German participants in W.W.I where 18 years old in 1918. That means they should be at least 102 years old by now. How many people with an age of 102 years and older who were involved into W.W.I are still living in the world? Not many I presume. The article is from 1998 that seems to fit into this scheme.

So I can't say any numbers but the numbers must be pretty small nowadays.
