CM11 not functioning

Hi all. I have gotten back into playing RB3d after many years and now have successfully achieved getting Hells Angels Gold, as well as Full Canvas Jacket to work flawlessly on my Toshiba Laptop running Windows 7. Who-da thunk that one day we'd be able to use these this way....pretty cool. My issue is my last goal, achieving a 3rd installation and getting the Western Front Patch to work as well. Here is my issue.....the CM11 software will not work in any config I've tried, and I've heard it won't work on 64 bit systems. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so is there a workaround or alternative that can get my final piece of the trifecta "WFP" to operate on my machine? The error I consistantly receive is a compatibility issue with x32 and or x86 bit operating systems. I've tried changing the compatibility mode in the preoperties of the exe., but to no avail. Is it that I have a 64 bit machine and this just wont work? There's gotta be a way around this. Any help is much appreciated!

Pioneers of Flight for FS-WWI Released!

It's FINALLY here!

Sorry for the very long delay, but real life happens, ya know?

This is the very first release of a totally new Plane Pack for Fighter Squadron - World War One. As such, of course the contents within are considered Beta, and in an ever-changing state. Also, this release just includes the first 5 aircraft, with basic missions and ground units. In the future, we hope to offer more aircraft, varied ground units and even a new airfield designed for Pioneers of Flight.

Download from here: Pioneers of Flight for FS-WWI Plane Pack v1.0

And now the readme:

**Pioneers of Flight for FS-WWI**

Install to your root 'Fighter Squadron' or 'FS-WWI' folder.

Add-ons that are required/not required:

You MUST have the latest FS-WWI Plane Pack installed for this add-on to function.

Be sure to check out the individual readme files in the 'Fighter Squadron' or 'FS-WWI'\wwi_readme folder for credit information about all of the included add-ons.

How to uninstall:

A file called 'Uninstall PoF for FS-WWI' gets placed in your 'Fighter Squadron' or FS-WWI' folder when you install the Pioneers of Flight for FS-WWI mod. To uninstall, simply double-click this file and follow the instructions.

What aircraft/lighter-than-air craft are included?

The Early Dirigible
The Eastbourne Monoplane
The Farman III
The La Mouche Monoplane
The Santos Dumont 14bis

What ground units included:

Race Pylon, tweaked from the Ground Unit pack from WW2 SDOE.
Barrage Balloon, tweaked from the Ground Unit pack from WW2 SDOE.

Known Issues:

-The Santos Dumont 14bis cannot be flown by the AI. Overall it is a very twitchy aircraft and requires much skill to handle. Please do not start it off in a mission with an altitude of over 2,000 feet.
-At times, some missions with many of these aircraft will cause a CTD. I am still working on trying to find a solution to this problem.
-6,000 feet is the max most of these aircraft can fly at. Some, much lower. Please do not start these aircraft mid-air above 5,500 feet.
-The Early Dirigible is not actually lighter-than-air. That is a feature Fighter Squadron does not support. Be sure not to fly slower than 10-12 mph.

If you find any other serious issues (Not cosmetic) than the ones above or the ones in the aircraft readme files, PLEASE report them to me via e-mail or the www.openplanesim.com forum. You can E-mail me at: ArgonV@AOL.com
If you have any suggestions/comments/contributions you would like to add, also feel free to e-mail me!

Notes:

All the aircraft have been looked over by me personally. I did some "poetic licensing" so-to-speak. I would like to apologize in advance if I offended anyone by "tweaking" their work, but I assure you it was for the good of the whole pack and I believe you will like the results.

Please look at each individual aircraft readme file for more specific information.

Thanks to:

-Lewis aka LesterBoffo who came to me with his wonderful work he wanted to see fly in Fighter Squadron. Without his dedication, skills and persistence none of this would be available!
-I would like to thank my loving wife Shandy for putting up with the long hours I dedicate to this mod, as well as for her valuable input and support.
-Recon3 for his outstanding skin work that I borrowed much from.

Enjoy!

RofCampaign Install

Hello,

I am new here and this is my first post.

I’m trying to install RoFCampaign and I’m having trouble. I tried to follow the instructions furnished with the download, but I’m doing something wrong I think. Everything works up to the point where you ask for “automatic results”. (Error message- Mission results directory doesn’t exist). Mission log files are being generated though.

I think the problem is I don’t have the correct path for the “auto result directory”. I looked for Elephant’s post but couldn’t find it. Can someone please tell me how to set this up?
Many thanks Antique

The Absolute Best WWI Flight Sim

Hello to everyone,

I'm new here, but I've been a flight simmer for quite a while. I was curious as to what you guys thought was the absolute best World War I flight simulator. Currently I have absolutely zero WWI flight sims, and want to get one, but I would like to get a good one.
I have Wings Over Vietnam by ThirdWire, and if my understanding is right, First Eagles/First Eagles 2 was built on the same engine, which might not be bad.

But what are your opinions on the subject?

RoFCampaign 10.0 is available for download now.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I have uploaded RoFCampaign 10.0 by myself as the download manager of my board software had problems apparently. Link: RofCampaign 10.0 Download.

I am still clueless why the download function was broken as it first worked. I 'presume' it had something to do with always using the same filename for each new version. Although this should not happen. I have uploaded the file as RofCampaign10.0.zip versus the earlier versions named RoFCampaign.zip. It should work now. I will do an update of the download manager soon which has been released by the board's manufacturer recently. Hope this will correct some things.

Cheers and apologies

This is a campaign add on for Rise Of Flight Single Player which lets one create a campaign and generate missions for it. As a pre-condition you need to have Sun's JAVA installed on your computer to run RoF Campaign.

ROF Campaign is an offline campaign. It pretty much handles everything that doesn't happen in the air.

The Campaign
- Create a pilot Choose a country to fly for
- Choose a campaign start date
- Choose a rank
- Choose a squadron
- Fly in a scout, recon or bomber squadron

Create a Pilot:
- His name and rank.
- His status.
- His victories – the type and date they were scored.

The environment:
- Squadron placement is fairly accurate but does not change
- Aircraft assignments will be accurate within game limitations.
- Yes, every Allied recon squadron is flying Breguets – including the British.
- … and every German recon squadron is flying DFWs.
- Updates will be made ASAP as aircraft come online.

Generate a mission:
- RoFCampaign generates a mission in the RoF "Missions" directory in the form .mission
- You fly the mission in RoF
- Members of your squadron are assigned to the mission.
- Friendly and enemy flights are generated.
- Mission parameters are varied.
- You may or may not lead depending on your status in the squadron.
- Ground or air start.

Your squadron:
- See your squadron.
- Their rank.
- How many missions they have flown.
- How man victories they have.
- Assign individual skins to your squadron mates.
- Assign historically accurate skins at a squadron level.
- Transfer to a different squadron
- Take a leave

Aces:
- Fight with and against historical aces.
- See how you stack up.
- Assign historically accurate skins to aces.

Flying Corps Gold

Hello,

I believe "Rise of Flight" has become a benchmark for WWI and probably WWII flight simulators. Because of the contemporary roughness of its graphics, I fail to see why "Red Baron 3D" still retains a large following. However, I am still attracted to "Flying Corps Gold" because of its visual beauty for its release date as well as its sound quality. Flight dynamics can not match ROF, but the latter is ten years newer in technology. Although FCG remains a favorite, it is becoming a memory because it is user-hostile.

The program did run on my system previously. Two years ago, though, a virus destroyed the system drive. FCG was a victim. I have been attempting since to reinstall FCG, but with no luck. While I have augmented the CPU horsepower, the base remains XP (Service Pack 3) supported by a Geforce 7800GT. I have read, and to the best of my abilities, applied the Micheal Gardiner 2002 and 2008 instructions for XP installation.

I configure the "Install" to the recommended compatibility and modify the "Setup" to accomodate an installation. Each time a clean installation is applied, followed by a "fc_111y" patch application as well as a 8F8F6139-14CE-4228-9507-280CA3147DF7.zip\ or SMACK DLL upgrade. I do have a 0192297F-3102-4512-A0F3-E54A3F4DF56F.zip patch remaining which contains apparent similar files as the famous "Y" patch. After applying these two patches, I set the "WFLY" to a Win95 compatibility. I complete by a system reboot.

A launch starts then fails due to memory reference errors. No matter how much I fiddle with the compatibility settings the program will either fail to launch or crashes due to memory errors. At this point of repeat attempts to return to an operational program, I am fearing that the Catholic Church was correct in warning me that repeats of the same action like this will lead to blindness.

To avoid sin and perdition, I ask if anyone has an "Idiots Guide" toward a functional XP installation or an alternate FX compatible exe or even a miraculous FCG XP download source? If this forum which I view as a leader in flight simulator experience, I will accept that further repeated attempts to obtain a FCG launch on my XP system will end in sinful blindness.

Rise Of Flight: Update 1.019 Available

777 Studios have released their Update 1.019 to Rise Of Flight. A lot of improvements have gone into this version such as the new career mode, a revamp of the graphics system including Nvidia SLI and ATI Crossfire support (see graphics primer on RoF Forums), two new mission types with artillery spotting and aerial reconnaissance, and a new flyable plane, the Breguet 14B.

The new career mode took the RoF Team quite a lot of time and resources to implement. For those of you who have already used Pat Wilson's excellent third party add on 'Rof Campaign' you will see if the internal new career mode brings you any enhancement over what you already used for a long time. Mind you that RofCampaign was developed 'single-handedly' in his free time by Pat Wilson. The new career mode is described by the developers as follows:

Quote

Finally, the main star of this update is the new Career Mode, which was the main goal of this update after months of difficult development. It was a concept in our heads from the very beginning and we are finally able to release it only after 2 years of further development. As you can see a project like ROF is not easy and takes time. This is a very unique mode of gameplay. It has no set beginning or set end and total gameplay time of the new Career is easily few thousand hours. It includes elements from books, diaries, biographies and military history. It creates an excellent foundation or plot, which in addition to your imagination can make a sort of memoir with narrative bibliographic depth and accuracy. Before we began making a WWI sim, when we were game players in the community like you, we were reading memoirs of pilots, imagining all of the dogfights vividly as if we were there participating in each fight by ourselves. The aim of our work in the new Career Mode was to create a sort of "memoir generator" for you. Now you can create unique experiences and complex or simple fates for pilots who can to become legends or simply die in the first air battles under your command. On the other hand, all players of the new Career mode will be united by common conditions and will be able to see each other's achievements as the progress in a squadron. Even with identical initial conditions each pilot’s virtual life will be unique and no two Career paths will be identical.

This relates to Dynamic Objects, Buildings and Explosions (The 50 setting approximates to the normal 1.018 Drawing Distance; At MAX setting planes may be visible at 8500m (instead of 6000/2500m at max/min FOV before) at any FOV, vehicles at 5000m (instead of 3500/1000m) at any FOV, Big Building Blocks at 9500m on narrowest FOV (compared to 6000m in 1.018)
34. Trucks, tanks, ships, artillery, locomotives, firing positions, balloons and planes may now fire a signal flare of specified colour using Mission Script command CMD_Flare.
35. "Spawn at me" parameter for TRG_Spawner (which enables a proximity trigger with spawned objects, and also enables you to spawn one object in different places).
36. TRG_Delete deletes objects without destroying them. It completely removes (as opposed to just deactivating) objects like planes, baloons, ships, vehicles, firing positions and trains (but not buildings!).
37. Airfields now restore landed planes if they correspond to the current airfield plane set and country as long as the "Return friendly planes" option is enabled for the airfield in question using the Mission Editor.

Rise Of Flight: New Career Mode

The RoF development team has posted a sneak peek of the coming revised career mode in their Rise Of Flight News Blog.

According to this blog entry the new career mode may include the following features:

Quote

* Covers 700 days of the Great War. More days may be added if we build planes from even earlier in the war.
* Continued promotion through the ranks.
* Changing Weather with Seasonal Textures (Summer, Autumn and Winter).
* New Titles and Awards.
* More than 15 different types of missions.
* New types of gameplay, such as adjusting artillery fire or photo reconnaissance, with new interactive elements and equipment such a wireless radio and/or camera added to your plane. You can also watch real-time changes in the world based on the results of your actions such as corrected artillery fire.
* A higher level of interactivity and randomness during missions, for example, flying close to an enemy's airfield could trigger enemy fighters to intercept you.
* Combines your personal statistics, events and achievements with real history.
* Interactive map of hostilities with information about current operations at the front and the location of various units and squadrons.
* Historically correct squadron’s location and re-locations.
* Historically correct automatic mission completion by A.I. pilots in missions not involving the player using a new technique we developed.
* Historically correct awards and conditions for awards.
* Realistic calendar of European Weather
* Virtual "Newspaper", depicting timely events at the front, new inventions in science and technology, and list of important aces published on a regular basis.
* All virtual A.I. squadron mates have their own names, grow in rank and abilities, go the hospital if needed and receive awards for their actions.
* Ability to meet historic allied or enemy aces in combat situations. If you kill a famous enemy ace he will not re-appear and his kill total will stop in the press.
* Ability to be transferred to another squadron with promotion in rank.
* Realistic attrition of personnel and material in your squadron.
* Repair of damaged aircraft and hospitalization of wounded pilots.
* Ability to use a custom paintjob after 5 kills.
* Opportunity to become a squadron commander and plan missions.
* Planning includes the selection of pilots and aircrafts, which will participate in your flight.
* Editing a route: choice of range, move waypoints, a height indicator, buildings types, speeds and altitudes.
* Many new villages, town and industrial areas added to the map along with windsocks at airfields.

Some features seem to have been implemented and the team is proceeding to the testing stage.
Further notes:
Bomber/recon missions are still in their infancy. Much more can be done but even at this stage there should be some interesting missions. As a Gotha pilot you can not only bomb but also defend against enemy scouts. Two seaters will also cross your path. That should be even more interesting when the two seaters start to come out, as two seater vs. two seater combat will be a common event.

Some planned upgrades:
1. Vary targets for bombers - train stations, ships, bridges, etc. This is going to take alot of work as I will have to add these items in reasonable places.
2. Add escorts for two seater flights. This will enhance all campaign, bomber, scout, or otherwise.
3. Do active artillery spots with your arty bombarding their the target as you arrive.
4. Try to do persistent damage. That will be difficult, but hopefully possible.
5. More ground units.
